Get Out Of Traffic In Apopka

To the people who live in Apopka, it seems as if there's one way in and one way out.

If the intersection where U.S. Highway 441 and state Road 436 meet shuts down, consider yourself late to work.

Apopka is in northwest Orange County, and from 2005 to 2006, the population jumped by 7 percent.

Without any major roads around it and a growing number of residents, WESH 2 traffic reporter Danielle Bellini traveled miles to find the best route out.

If the intersection at U.S. 441 and S.R. 436 shuts down, drivers will have to choose their alternate quickly.

"Right now, we’re on U.S. 441 where it runs southeast just before the approach to 436. Coming up here is Park Avenue. We’re going to hook a right and go south on Park Avenue," Bellini said.

She said she passed school buses, school crossings and pedestrians. Since it's only one lane in each direction, she said it seemed pretty congested.

"While this alternate starts off slow, the speed picks up and goes up to 50 mph. There’s less traffic lights and eventually it gets you to a major road," Bellini said.

At the light, she made a left onto Clarcona-Ocoee Road.

Traveling eastbound, drivers will reach Hiawassee Road. You can take that southbound if you want to continue south.

"So, our alternate not only gets you out of Apopka, but it takes you southbound and gives you more alternates depending on where you need to go," Bellini said.

Her final turn was a right off of Clarcona-Ocoee Road, reconnecting her with U.S. 441 and putting her back southbound.
