Morning News Anchor
Scott Walker was recently named best news anchor by the Mobile, Ala., Press Club, and he's now bringing his skills to Central Florida at WESH 2 News.At WPMI-TV in Mobile, Scott co-anchored an award-winning morning newscast and the station's noon newscast, as well as produced technology segments.In 2004 and 2005, Scott covered several tropical storms and hurricanes, such as Ivan, Arlene, Cindy, Dennis and Katrina. During Hurricane Ivan coverage, the station's broadcast tower was toppled by a tornado. During Katrina, the generator caught fire, knocking the signal off the air for 18 hours. Scott joined his fellow anchors as they moved their storm coverage to a local radio studio and delivered news and information with their radio partners.
Scott has interviewed President George H.W. Bush and reported for 16 days from College Station, Texas, to Omaha, Neb., during Mississippi State's 1998 College World Series run. He was honored as the outstanding senior in broadcast journalism while attending the University of Southern Mississippi.Scott began his career at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, Miss., and while still enrolled in his junior year of college, he became the weekend sports anchor.Scott then became a sports anchor at WLBT-TV in Jackson, Miss., where he covered the National Football League, college bowl games, NCAA baseball and basketball tournaments and the College World Series. While there, he also co-anchored the station's popular Sunday night sports program.Scott also worked at WXXV-TV, a FOX affiliate in Gulfport, Miss. He was the station's first sports director and later began working at the news desk. He co-anchored the 9 and 10 p.m. newscasts for two years before making the move to Mobile.Scott was born and raised in New Orleans, and currently lives in Central Florida with his wife, Jennifer, and their 2-year-old son, Jack.
