"In August of 2006, we launched a new hour-long 4 p.m. weekday newscast on air and online. Last week, we launched a new two-hour weekday newscast on our sister station CW18," said Bill Bauman, WESH 2 president and general manager. "We believe this new lineup uses the best skills of our very talented anchors and reporters as we continue to work toward our ultimate goal of anywhere-anytime local news and weather coverage."

"These strategic changes will help make sure we have the right people in the right places to aggressively cover the big stories that impact Central Florida," said Maushard. "One of the most exciting moves we’re making is creating a unique showcase for Wendy Chioji at 6 p.m. She is our most trusted and recognized anchor: She can get interviews others can't. Wendy will put her years of reporting experience and community connections to work to present viewers with a one-of-a-kind newscast."

"This is an opportunity few journalists ever get," said Chioji. "I look forward to bringing Central Florida viewers important stories they won't see anywhere else ... and do it in a unique and different way."

Chioji and her fellow news anchors assume their new roles on Jan. 29.

WESH 2 also announced the addition of Jason Brewer to the WESH 2 Weather Plus team on Wednesday. Brewer comes to WESH 2 from KPRC-TV in Houston, where he worked as a weekend meteorologist. Brewer's first day at WESH 2 will be Feb. 12.

"Weather is one of the biggest reasons why our viewers watch local news. Therefore, our commitment to weather coverage will continue to expand," said Maushard. "By adding Jason to our team, we will be able to offer our viewers even more team coverage of Central Florida weather on air, online and on our digital weather channel 'WESH 2 Weather Plus.'"

Digital WESH 2 Weather Plus airs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on Bright House Networks channel 1021.
