DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Rolex 24 sports car endurance race turned into an endurance event for fans as well over the weekend.

But cool weather and rain couldn't keep them from enjoying the action at the track, WESH 2 News reported.

One dedicated race fan worked to keep his 5-year-old shielded from the wind.

"It's kind of crazy, but it's cool, beautiful racing out here," the race fan said.

But when steady rain began to fall, most race fans ducked for cover. The drivers had to deal with the elements, and the fans picked out their spots.

While the party went on for many fans, one college football fan was found donning his Ohio State gear.

"I'm so proud of my Buckeyes no matter what happened. The Florida Gators had a great game," the fan said.

The Rolex 24 is always a popular race. But in recent years, more of the NASCAR drivers have run, meaning the crowds are bigger, and there's less room on the infield.

But race fans make the most out of the least real estate. A pickup box is a photo platform, and an outdoor fire provides all of the comforts of home.

"We're going to keep coming back every year," a fan said.
