TAVARES, Fla. -- A full week after Election Day, some local elections aren't over.In Lake County, there's still a deadlock in Groveland and the race is still too close to call in Minneola. Both races will be subjected to a recount Wednesday, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.
The elections canvassing board said by law, it had no choice and approved the recounts."We'll do a machine recount and we'll scan the absentee ballots," said Jerry Foster, the assistant elections supervisor.G.P. Sloan, one of two candidates for Groveland City Council, opposes the recount. His opponent, Richard Flynn, wants the recount. Both men have 689 votes."It's a waste of time and a waste of money," Sloan said.Since Lake County only uses touch-screen voting machines, and they do not produce a paper trail, the recount will be conducted by the machine. Officials will manually recount 208 absentee ballots, and if the race is still tied, a coin flip will determine the winner.
