Rage Report: Coach Hall At Right Tackle?
News And Notes From Rage Practice
Who's Hot:
- QB Jeff Brohm ? Not only tossed the first XFL touchdown pass in league history, but also finished with 217 yards and 4 touchdowns.
- WR Kevin Swayne ? Caught the first touchdown pass in XFL history on Orlando's first play from Scrimmage.
- WR Dialleo Burks - Lead the Rage in receiving with 5 catches for 53 yards and 3 touchdowns.
- LB Shawn Banks ? Paced the defense with 5 solo tackles, 2 for a loss. In addition, he had a fumble recovery and a pick.
Wednesday's Practice Highlights:
- Coach Hall had some fun with his O-line on Wednesday when Brohm quick-kicked and the line had to scramble to the ball. Remember, in the XFL punts and kick-offs are live after 25-yds. When Coach Hall laughingly said, "do it again", one of the biggins' yelled out, "Coach Hall, you're running at right tackle".
- WR/KR ? Shannon "Skinny" Culver looked smooth in practice. He hauled in everything thrown his way.
- RB ? Brian Shay made some nice finger tip catches coming out of the backfield.
What they're saying:
Head Coach Galen Hall:
- On the run vs. the pass: "We need to have consistent play on offense. We have good backs and we want to continue to run the ball, but if the defense manages to clog it up...we can hit with the big play down the field."
- On his team: "With a 38 man roster, a lot of guys have to pull double duty on special teams. Sure guys like to be the starter, but with the way we rotate players being the starter doesn't always mean the most reps ...Everyone has a role on this team."
QB Jeff Brohm :
- On Saturday's game with the Enforcers: "We were able to go up top on them, but we'll continue to run the ball."
- On the Cameras: "Because we had a dry run with the cameras, we were somewhat prepared for the distractions. I was watching a game on Sunday and saw a reporter track down somebody after a fumble...the player wasn't happy. I guess the cameras are less of an issue when things are going well."
- On game bonuses and the $ 1,000,000 for winning it all: "This team figures that if we are going to take the time to play the games, we may as well do our best to get our game bonuses for winning. Sure the million dollars is a motivation, but it is nice to be on team with guys who enjoy playing the game."
- On the fans: "The fans were great. It was nice to have that kind of support."
WR/KR Shannon "Skinny" Culver :
- On nicknames on jerseys: "I have my nickname, but I feel it's more professional to go with Culver on my jersey. It works for me."
- On returning kicks in the XFL: "Get to the ball, you just have to get to the ball... then make it happen."
Injury Report:
DB- Hassan Shamsid-Deen will miss at least four weeks because of the dislocated shoulder he suffered during the "Dash for the Ball".
First Game Wrap-Up:
The fans were great barring a few scuffles. The football was not bad. The nicknames well, Vince McMahon might want to enlist the services of Chris Berman to do a little coaching. For the most part, this hack would give the XFL's first week a 'B' for overall performance, an 'A' for the effort, and a '3' in conduct. OK, so not everyone will understand the Deltona Junior High School rating system for conduct, but let's just say that a '3' in conduct will keep you from attending the ninth grade civics trip to Washington, D.C.?Thanks Mr. Cochran. With a few less altercations in the stands, and a few more cut aways to the Orlando Rage game, the XFL will work its way up to a '2'.
