John Huggins Gets New Trial
Huggins Convicted Of First-Degree Murder
ORLANDO -- The Florida Supreme Court made a ruling late Thursday afternoon in a high profile Central Florida murder case.
John Huggins(pictured, left) is getting a new trial for the kidnap and murder of Carla Larson.
The court has overturned the death sentence for Huggins, who was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Larson. The Orlando engineer was murdered in a wooded area near the Orange-Osceola county line.
Larson (pictured, left), the wife and mother of a baby at the time, was abducted from a Publix parking lot in Osceola County. She had worked on one of the resorts at Disney and went to the grocery store to get lunch when she came upon Huggins.
Huggins' attorneys maintain that a man, who saw Huggins wife driving Larson's Ford Explorer, changed his story several times and that the state prosecutors never allowed defense attorneys to interrogate the man, Preston Ausley.
In their findings, Supreme Court justices wrote that this is the conclusion of what happens when the prosecutor fails to fulfill the obligation of ensuring a defendant a fair trial.
