ORANGE CITY, Fla. -- The father of an employee at an Orange City video store shot and killed an armed suspect during a robbery Monday night.

Father Foils Blockbuster Robbery Attempt

It happened at the Blockbuster store along Enterprise Road just before midnight, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.

Robert Shockey, 50, had been picking up his son from work since a robbery at the store about a month earlier.

"He came here, as he has just about every night for the last 30 days. The two black males entered the store, pulled a rifle, and demanded money. He was already armed with his firearm, pulled his firearm, and shot both of them," Volusia County Sheriff's Capt. Dave Hudson said.

James Wince, 19, was killed. A second suspect, Darius Bennett, 18, was injured and transported to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach with a chest wound.

Wince was also an employee at the same store, officials said.

"It's disturbing that our employee has been involved with this crime. We are working with the police investigators assigned to this case, and cannot make further comment since we do not want to interfere with an ongoing police investigation," Blockbuster official Randy Hargrove said.

Officials believe Shockey had a permit to carry the weapon and said the shooting was justified.
