DEBARY, Fla. -- Some DeBary residents said Thursday night that they're flooded out of their homes and they want the government to buy them out.The frustrated and waterlogged homeowners in Volusia County said they want out of their destroyed homes."This is my life," flood victim Darcie Ditaranto said. "I have no home right now."
Ditaranto is confronting the DeBary City Council. She said she went to Thursday's meeting for answers. She said she wants to know if the city will buy her house."I need to know what's going to be done so I can go on with my life," she said.Ditaranto said she and her family are living in a mobile home. Like many others, she said her family is fighting mold."My husband's home ripping the whole inside of the house out," Ditaranto said. But Councilman Jack Lenzen said homeowners shouldn't look to the city to buy them out."The city will not be buying all these homes," Lenzen said. "We financially cannot do it."The city of DeBary had $5 million in the bank. After completing eight storm water projects, the account is down to $1 million, and there are still 30 more projects to go.Ditaranto said the time for questions and answers has passed, and the time for action is here and now.
